TEHRAN – President Hassan Rouhani has said that progress can be made through close coordination among the country’s three branches of government as he called for more cooperation to use the situation created with the implementation of the nuclear accord.

Rouhani made the remarks on Monday after holding a joint meeting on Monday with the speaker of parliament Ali Larijani and his brother Sadeq Amoli Larijani who is the chairman of the Judiciary.

It was the first trilateral meeting since the nuclear agreement was implemented. The meeting also took place as Iran is celebrating the Islamic Revolution anniversary.

Iran and the 5+1 group - the United States, Britain, France, China and Russia plus Germany - finalized the text of the nuclear deal, officially known as the JCPOA, in Vienna on July 14. The deal went into force on January 16, 2016 as result of which sanctions against Iran are being removed in lieu of temporary limits on Iran’s nuclear activities.

The president described the meeting as “important” in which the most important national issues were discussed. He said they held talks on the need to boost coordination in efforts to achieve progress.

Rouhani also said the Islamic Revolution brought “dignity, independence and freedom” to the country.

He also urged the people to participate in the February 11 rallies [known as the Bahman 22 in Persian], the day marking the climax of the Islamic Revolution.

By participating in the rallies, people will prove that they follow the path of the revolution, he noted.

Rouhani also urged the people to participate in the February 26 polls when the parliamentary and Assembly of Experts elections will be held simultaneously.
